CanSIA Members Recognized in Alberta for Upholding a High Ethical Standard

9/8/2017

Protecting and serving consumers by ensuring a fair, safe and informed marketplace is important to CanSIA and to our Member companies. Therefore, in early June of 2016, CanSIA initiated new consumer protection policies to fulfill this responsibility.

CanSIA’s introduction of a new standard

Leveraging the experience of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) (the American equivalent of CanSIA) and in consultation with its members, CanSIA developed a set of standards in 2016 to serve as a blueprint for the future.  The ‘Solar Business Code of Conduct’,  ‘Going Solar: A Guide for Consumers’ and a robust complaint resolution process were introduced to provide potential consumers with the tools to educate themselves, assess their needs and source reputable solar retailers.

With the swift uptake from Canadian solar companies, it was evident that high quality standards are not only important to the consumer, but important to the companies themselves. Members take pride in ensuring consumers recognize the value and security associated with the ‘Proud CanSIA Member’ logo.
Recognition by Alberta government for upholding a high ethical standard

On June 21st, Energy Efficiency Alberta launched its $36-million Residential and Commercial Solar Program. The two-year Residential and Commercial Solar Program is expected to create roughly 50 megawatts of solar capacity and support 900 jobs in Alberta's solar sector by 2019.

In recognition of CanSIA's commitment to consumer protection and ensuring ethical conduct by our members, Energy Efficiency Alberta directs program participants to CanSIA’s online Member Directory to find qualified solar providers.

CanSIA will continue to find new opportunities to demonstrate that our Members can be relied upon for fair, safe and high quality service.

Looking for a solar provider in your area? Check out CanSIA’s online Member Directory today.

Corporate Members who currently, or intend to, provide rooftop solar installation services to Alberta residents, businesses and non-profit organizations are eligible to be included in the list. If you are a CanSIA Member and have not yet confirmed your interest in offering solar PV installation services in Alberta, or if you would like to learn more about becoming a member, please contact Lisa Hatina directly by email at lhatina@cansia.ca.
