2016-2017 Strategic Projects
Growing Solar Market Share in Alberta & Saskatchewan
The Government of Alberta's Climate Leadership Plan and Saskatchewan's utility-scale renewable electricity procurement will begin to rapidly accelerate the installed capacity of renewable electricity generation in Western Canada starting in 2017. Between then and now, there will be many critical decisions related to utility-scale procurement, distributed generation and community ownership influenced in part by pro-active media and public relations.
The aim of this Strategic Project is to ensure that the market for solar electricity grows significantly and sustainably in Alberta and Saskatchewan and to ensure long-term growth in these markets to 2030.

National Solar Electricity Strategy
Throughout the second half of 2016, the Government of Canada, along with provinces and territories, will work to determine how to meet the national target for CO2 emission reductions of 30% by 2030 while maximizing the benefits of clean technology to our economy.
The aim of this project is to position the solar energy industry optimally for leadership, regulation and investment at the federal-level.

Positioning Solar in Ontario’s Long Term Energy Plan
Ontario's next Long Term Energy Plan will be developed throughout the summer and fall of 2016 and will set the parameters of the provincial energy landscape over the next planning period. Ontario represents the largest solar market in Canada and it is important that CanSIA continue to strongly advocate for forward looking and supportive policy and regulatory frameworks that take into account: the falling costs and expanded functionality of solar generation, GHG avoidance potential and consumer preference.
The aim of this project is to maintain and build the role of solar within the next Ontario Long Term Energy Plan.
